Garmin Health Partners with King’s College London on Maternal and Infant Health Study

Garmin Health has announced a new collaboration with researchers at King’s College London as part of the EMBRACE project, a large-scale study aimed at improving health outcomes for mothers and infants during and after pregnancy.

As part of the effort, Garmin will provide smartwatches for up to 40,000 participants. The devices will contribute to data collection supporting the study’s focus on maternal and infant health.

Research Collaboration

The EMBRACE project brings together expertise from multiple disciplines with the goal of better understanding and improving care for families. Garmin Health has supported research initiatives for more than a decade, supplying wearable technology and data integration capabilities to academic and clinical partners worldwide.

Industry Engagement

The announcement was shared during the Garmin Health Summit, held this year at the New York Stock Exchange. The annual event convenes healthcare journalists, researchers, and industry partners to discuss innovations in digital health and wearable technology. Previous summits have been hosted in Rome, Prague, and Singapore.

Perspectives

“Wearable technology plays an important role in expanding access to health data at scale,” said Joern Watzke, Senior Director at Garmin Health. “Collaborations like EMBRACE highlight how connected devices can support research into pressing health challenges.”

Scott Burgett, Senior Director of Garmin Health Engineering, added that the project demonstrates the importance of integrating device technology into large-scale studies to support long-term health outcomes.

Professor Josip Car of King’s College London emphasized the potential impact of EMBRACE on maternal and infant health research, noting that the scale of participation could generate valuable insights for clinical practice and public health.
