Survey Shows Growing Patient Preference for Tele dermatology Options
National poll finds access barriers and wait times driving interest in virtual dermatology care
Nov. 18, 2025 — Miiskin has released findings from a nationwide survey examining how patients in the United States view dermatology care and the role of telehealth in addressing ongoing access challenges. The survey, conducted independently by YouGov, included more than 1,000 participants representing a range of demographic groups.
The results indicate that cost, insurance limitations, and appointment delays continue to restrict access to dermatology services. Sixty-five percent of respondents cited insurance coverage as a barrier, 42% pointed to out-of-pocket costs, and 33% identified convenience and wait times as obstacles to receiving care. Reported wait times for in-person dermatology visits averaged more than 30 days.
The survey found that provider qualifications remain a key priority. Seventy-four percent of respondents said it is important to see a board-certified dermatologist rather than another type of dermatology provider. Respondents also emphasized the importance of knowing a provider’s name and credentials, with 58% rating this as very important.
Teledermatology was identified as a potential tool to reduce delays and expand care availability. More than half of respondents (51%) said they would choose a faster virtual appointment over waiting longer for an in-person visit. Digital dermatology consultations, which often fall within a typical copay range, were also noted as a lower-cost option.
Miiskin reported that its virtual dermatology platform, launched earlier in 2025, has facilitated nearly 10,000 online consultations to date and receives more than 300,000 monthly visits. The platform connects patients with independent, board-certified dermatologists and offers appointment access within approximately 48 hours.
Jon Friis, CEO of Miiskin, said the survey results reflect a need for accessible options in dermatology. The company stated that its platform is designed to reduce wait times, offer transparent provider information, and support dermatologists through a secure system intended to streamline patient care.
