DrFirst Appoints Laizer Kornwasser as Chief Executive Officer

Former Teladoc executive to lead healthcare tech firm through next phase of growth; Cameron Deemer becomes vice chairman

July 22, 2025 – Healthcare technology company DrFirst has named Laizer Kornwasser as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 21. He succeeds G. Cameron Deemer, who will continue supporting the company as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The leadership transition is part of a planned succession strategy aimed at positioning DrFirst for its next stage of growth. The company, which develops end-to-end medication management solutions, currently serves more than 100 million patients annually through integrations with electronic health record (EHR) systems used across hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.

Kornwasser Brings Broad Healthcare Leadership Experience

Kornwasser joins DrFirst with more than 20 years of leadership experience across pharmacy, telemedicine, pharmaceutical benefit management, and chronic care. He most recently served as President of Enterprise Growth and Emerging Markets at Teladoc Health, and previously held senior roles at CareCentrix and Medco Health. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and has taught at Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business.

“What drew me to this company is its consistent ability to identify gaps in medication management and create effective solutions to close those gaps, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to customers and employees,” said Kornwasser. “DrFirst has built something extraordinary—patented AI technologies, the nation’s largest medication management network, and deep integration with virtually every major EHR system. I’m excited to lead this exceptional team as we accelerate our strategy and continue to deliver comprehensive, interoperable solutions.”

Building on a Legacy of Innovation

DrFirst was founded in 2000 by James Chen, who now serves as Executive Chairman. Under the leadership of Chen and Deemer, the company introduced several innovations that have become industry standards, including:

  • Electronic prescribing for controlled substances (EPCS)
  • Real-time prescription benefit checks
  • AI-powered interoperability tools
  • Prescription orchestration technologies

“As we prepared for DrFirst’s next growth phase, we were seeking a leader who could embrace our vision and scale our market-leading platform,” said Deemer. “Laizer’s proven ability to drive aggressive growth while building cultures that attract and retain top talent makes him ideal to lead DrFirst going forward.”

Chen added, “Laizer’s track record of business transformation and operational excellence across multiple healthcare sectors aligns perfectly with our vision for the company’s future. His leadership will be instrumental as we pursue rapid growth.”

Recognition and Market Position

DrFirst was recently recognized with Frost & Sullivan’s 2025 Enabling Technology Leadership Award, which highlighted the company’s ability to foster collaboration and optimize care across the patient journey. The company has also received more than 25 industry awards in recent years, including Gold in the Edison Awards for its AI tools that help prevent medication errors and streamline clinical workflows.

With Kornwasser at the helm, DrFirst aims to build on its momentum and continue advancing technology solutions that improve medication management and care delivery at scale.
