Viome Acquires Sōlaria Biō to Expand Personalized Nutrition

Acquisition adds AI-driven microbiome research and clinically validated synbiotics targeting gut, joint and bone health.

Viome has acquired Sōlaria Biō, a company focused on clinically validated synbiotics and medical foods. The acquisition combines Sōlaria’s microbial discovery platform and biobank with Viome’s microbiome data to support development of targeted health products.

Sōlaria’s lead product, Bōndia, a clinically studied synbiotic and medical food for bone health, will become part of Viome’s product portfolio and will be the company’s first product available without requiring a Viome test. A second product, SBD121, is in development for joint health.

Bōndia has been evaluated in a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial for dietary management of bone loss. According to the company, the product reduced femoral bone loss by 84.5% in women with osteopenia and reduced hip bone loss by up to 73.7% in women with elevated BMI or body fat.

Sōlaria’s discovery platform includes more than 5,700 bacterial and fungal isolates collected from fruits, vegetables and fermented foods. Its machine-learning models are used to identify strain functions and develop targeted medical foods.

The acquisition follows Viome’s purchase of Circulate Health and expands its portfolio of clinically validated interventions. Viome says Bōndia is currently available through Sōlaria and will become available through Viome later this year.
