The Pennsylvania-based health system was one of the first Expanse customers to adopt the technology in 2020.

Butler Health System (Butler, PA) is extending care to patients with urgent medical needs — remotely and without an appointment — using Expanse Virtual On Demand Care. This independent community health system was one of the first MEDITECH customers to roll out the urgent care software when they implemented Expanse across their organization in 2020.

“In-person visits can present many obstacles for some patients, and that’s been especially true during the pandemic,” said CIO Roger Lutz. “With virtual urgent care, we stay connected to our community while patients have the convenience to meet with our providers whenever and wherever they happen to be.”

Fully integrated within the Expanse EHR, Virtual On Demand Care at Butler replicates the workflow of their FasterCare facility online. Providers working in the urgent care center monitor and claim patients through the virtual queue.

“Providers have full access to view and document within the patient’s EHR as if they were sitting right in front of them,” Lutz added.

“And with Expanse Virtual On Demand Care, our patients are treated by our doctors – clinicians they trust – and are never outsourced to a contracted virtual care service. This strengthens our patient-provider relationships and it ensures that the information in our patient records is always complete and available.”

Lutz also said that it’s been important for Butler to stay independent and community based.

“Virtual On Demand Care helps us to maintain the continuity of care and convenient access that our patients expect from their hometown health system,” he said.
